NOT

NOT

I drew a map of my world
I drew it far and wide
I added wants, goals and wishes
Of all I could not hold inside

I mapped each point precisely
Setting the priorities straight
Of which to accomplish first
And how much to hold on my plate.

I travelled along my map
Doing each in it’s slotted time
When others came to advise,
They all began to chime

Not this, it is not wise
Not this, it’s not possible
Not this, I can’t understand
Not this, it is so crossable

Soon my map was full of nots
Each goal was put on hold
I apologized for all my dreams
Immobilized, still, less bold.

To those wishing to advise me,
Please don’t tell me what not.
Please don’t think you are helping
When telling me all is for naught.

Now, crouched alone and dejected,
I’m unable to take a step,
My dreams held tightly in tears
That I still haven’t yet wept.
