RUDY: The Rueful Wolf
Rudy was a sweetheart.
He always picked the good part.
Neighbors could count on him.
No trouble would he begin.
Until the pack would come,
And call for him to run…
“AhhhhhhRuuuuuuuuuuudy
Let out your inner beastie!”
Then the trouble he would cause
Would make even a monster pause.
He’d be just another hellion.
Oh the mayhem and destruction.
“Run with the pack,
Don’t ever look back.
We have places to sack,
Because their things we lack!”
One day when they were done,
He realized it wasn’t even fun!
He hated being so bad.
It always just made him sad.
He looked at all the damage
He had done during his rampage.
Friendship could no longer be found
Among the broken memories around.
When the pack went to sleep,
He stayed up alone to weep,
Then slinked back to help repair,
Before anyone became aware…
Of all that he had done….
No, not even any fun….
The next day the pack came a’callin.
He stood up and faced them, growling,
“My ‘me’ is more important
Than any part or portion
Of what you’ve taken or broken
The ‘authentic me’ has awoken!
“I am an individual!
I don’t need your approval!
I choose to be my self alone,
Than be together as just your drone!
“Come be individuals with me
A pack of “I’s” inside a ‘we’.
And then all will see
Everyone will be free…
…To just be….
