Little Wally Walrus
Little Wally Walrus
Was left all alone
One night as he snuck
Through the bars
Of the cage on the ship
Where his family lived.
He’d wanted to look
At the stars.
The ship sailed away
Leaving Wally alone
On a rock by the edge
Of the sea.
He cried and he snorted,
“Widdow Wawwy Wawrus
Weft aww awwwooone
Oh woe, woe is me…”
A flock of flamingos
Wandered by his rock
All shuffling and sliding
In the sand.
Little Wally Walrus
Jumped up to go join them…
At least that
Was his plan.
He flopped and he plopped
And snorted and cavorted
Till the birds flew away
With a cry.
“Widdow Wawwy Wawrus
Weft aww awone
Wiff nuffing to eat
Wawwy wiww die!”
The birds felt so sad
That they’d acted so bad
And came back to teach
Him to eat.
They fed him some clams
And taught him to fish
But following was too hard
With no feet!
“Even Fwamingos
Weft Wawwy awone
But maybe that’s how
Things must be.”
So Wally waddled back
Down to the rock
And sat all alone
By the sea.
Little Wally Walrus
Sat on the rock.
He sat and he stared
At the moon.
“Widdow Wawwy Wawrus
Wuves the moon
But just wait it wiww go
Away soon…”
Little Wally Walrus
Sat on the rock.
He sat and he stared
At the sun.
“Widdow Wawwy Wawrus
Wuves the sun
But just wait clouds wiww
Spoiw my fun.”
Little Wally Walrus
Sat on the rock.
He sat and he stared
At a cloud.
“Widdow Wawwy Wawrus
Wuves the clouds
Maybe I have cried
Much too woud.”
He thought about sad
And happy and glad
And an idea clicked
In his brain.
“Aww comes and goes
As it aww should
There’s no need to
Compwain!”
Days passed to months
And months passed to years
And in all of that time
Wally grew.
He grew and he grew
Into such a fine one
Loving all he could see
And all he knew.
“Widdow Wawwy Wawrus
Is one with the world
And the world is one
With me.”
Little Wally Walrus
Was renamed “The Wise One”
By all who came
To see.
