CIRCADIAN REASON
It seems to me
The closer we be
To life’s boundary
The more we can see
The value in rhyme
And rhythm sublime
Is it nearness in time
To the Devine?
For a babe in arm
Is easy to charm
With a rhythmic pat
Upon the back
Or a nursery rhyme
All chanted in time
From God, just delivered
Are holy memories triggered?
A child of simplicity,
Incapable of duplicity,
Singing such pure tones
Mere listening to them atones.
Innocent questions upend
Adult rationales which offend.
Is it hoped, from the Lord’s gifts,
A healing of schisms and rifts?
During a teenager’s life
Fraught with struggle and strife
And such longing to be free,
Do they embrace the cacophony
Of so-called ‘modern art’,
To dodge the inevitable dart
Of endless drudgery
And future responsibility?
Adults are then so busy,
The thought just makes me dizzy.
They struggle to get from there
To there, but never to here.
Running to surf the wave
On the peak of that which they crave.
Banishing their own beginnings,
While avoiding ultimate endings?
Their pride and know-it-all notions
Prioritize reason o’er emotions
Their sense of superiority
Enables them to decree
Rhyme and rhythm just that,
A subliminal messaging trap!
They turn blind, as can be,
From what, once, did free.
When voices start to thicken
From vices or being stricken
When they then start to warble
From much too much vibrato,
Just ego dancing with tonality
From too much sense of “me”,
When souls are thrown in a sea,
Of denial of what will be,
During this longest of phases
The mid/end-life which stages
Reentry into God’s plan
The ultimate gift to man,
There usually comes a time
Where rhythm and/or rhyme
Are no longer considered trite
But lead to a newfound sight
This circadian rhythm of man,
Is it part or portion of plan?
Or nothing more or less than
A technique designed to fan
The flames of our desires
Turning us into mere buyers
Adding money into the pot
Of someone’s get rich plot?
It really doesn’t matter
Neither here nor heretofor,
If poems are sung or said
Or if just quietly read
But that they bring us close
To our daily minimum dose
Of the Lord’s helping hand
And how we fit in His Plan.
